Story behind “Holy Place” by Fr Gaston Yuven
This song is inspired by a composition by Derrick Nshamshee. But to have come up with the project and lyrics was the fruit of my first travel on a flight out of my country Cameroon. It just came suddenly and without expectation when I was chosen to represent Social Welfare CARITAS KUMBO in the Diocese of Kumbo for an Organization meeting (IECD) with its partners in Africa namely IECD Cameroon and PEFACI working in collaboration with IECD CÔTE D’IVOIRE. From Sunday the 31st of January to Friday 05th of February 2022.
This saw us traveling from the International Airport of Douala via Air Côte d’Ivoire to land first in Yaoundé to refuel the plane, then to take off for Abuja where we landed in Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
We kept the passengers going to Nigeria and took more going to Côte d’Ivoire and a delegation going to Ghana.
The Pleasant Story
It was a beautiful first experience that February 2022 traveling to Ivory Coast where we safely landed at the Félix Houphouët Boigny International Airport in Abidjan.
We were warmly welcomed by a delegation sent by PEFACI headed by Blue Fulgence who was very hospitable and jovial.
He took us to the Hotel where we were to lounge and then took us out for Lunch where he took time to explain their various and famous local dishes like atekie and the local brewery like Bock. Everyone was excited and we all decided to give a try.
That evening it was all exciting and beautiful. Couldn’t stop thanking and praising God for such marvels and favour bestowed on an unworthy servant.
Very early that morning before we left for Jacqueville the venue for the meeting, The words of the song started to come to mind. I used my phone to record it and a pen and paper to finalize it.
That’s how it was finally carved out. I started making contacts with BEBI PHILIP, an Ivorian musician and Producer because I wanted a coupé décalé mixed with afro njang feel of the song. Unfortunately, I got no response from the mail I sent to him. Our days were all scheduled and I couldn’t get to his studio in Abidjan.
That’s how we returned to Cameroon via the airport in Accra Ghana and I traveled back to Kumbo. The song was just lying fallow till I nursed the courage to seriously work on it no matter what it took.
Recording the Song
I then contacted Takov Studios who recommended Kibai beats to me. When I went for one of our meetings in Y’de I met the beat maker Fritz Anold himself who earlier on had worked the beats from that Côte d’Ivoire recording I earlier did.
That’s how finally after a few arguments from what he did, we finally came up with what we have now as Holy Place. A song really of Praise titled Holy Place evokes that spirit of always being and practicing the presence of God in our midst which definitely leads us to praise and thank God for each second and moment in our lives.
